Mario Kart Tournament

RULES:

Sanitation: Two Joy-cons w/ Grip controllers will be provided for each player. However, we encourage players to bring their own controllers if possible for sanitation purposes. If using the provided controllers, hand sanitizing stations will be available.

Tournament Structure

The fee for entering the tournament is $5. The tournament is capped at 8 total players. The 8 players will be split into 2 heats of 4 players each. All players are asked to arrive to 12 Stories Coffee by 6:00pm on Thursday, July 27, 2023.

The players of each heat will race on the 8 courses of the Golden Dash Cup and Lucky Cat Cup in order. At the end of the 8 courses, the top 2 players with the highest score will move on to the final round; the bottom 2 players will be eliminated from the tournament.

The final round will consist of the top 2 players from each heat, racing again on the 8 courses of the Golden Dash Cup and Lucky Cat Cup in order. At the end of the 8 courses, the players with the highest, second highest, and third highest scores will be awarded first place, second place, and third place respectively.

Prizes

The prizes will be awarded as follows:

1st Place - Trophy + $25 12 Stories gift card

2nd Place - $15 12 Stories gift card

3rd Place - $10 12 Stories gift card

Game Rules & Setting

At the start of each round, players will be given 5 minutes to select a character, kart, and control settings of their choosing. Smart Steering, Tilt Controls, and Auto-accelerate are all permitted. The race settings are as follows:

  • 150cc Race

  • No Teams

  • Normal Items

  • No COM

  • All Vehicles

  • 8 Races

At the start of each race, players are required to select the next course in order for the Golden Dash Cup followed by the Lucky Cat Cup. The course order is as follows:

Golden Dash Cup

  1. Paris Promenade

  2. Toad Circuit

  3. Choco Mountain

  4. Coconut Mall

Lucky Cat Cup

  1. Tokyo Blur

  2. Shroom Ridge

  3. Sky Garden

  4. Ninja Hideaway

Tie Breaker

In the event that a tie would cause a discrepancy in the tournament standings, the tied players will be sent to a single tie-breaking race. The settings of the race are as follows:

  • 200cc Race

  • No Teams

  • Frantic Items

  • No COM

  • All Vehicles

  • Random Course
